Manila, Philippines — A productive and inspiring industry gathering, led by the Rural Bankers Association of the Philippines (RBAP), Laguna Federation, recently convened trusted rural banks and leading fintech partners around a shared mission: advancing credit dignity for all Filipinos, particularly those in rural and underserved communities.
The event highlighted the critical role of collaboration in building a seamless, digitally enabled financial ecosystem—one that empowers rural banks to responsibly expand their credit portfolios, manage non-performing loans (NPLs), and better serve the evolving needs of their communities.
CRIF Philippines participated in the panel discussion, represented by Marlo Cruz, who underscored the importance of robust data sharing, contextualized credit insights, and smarter, data-driven decision-making in transforming credit access for rural banks. He emphasized that when credit information is not only enabled but enhanced through innovation and technology, financial institutions are better equipped to deliver inclusive, responsive, and sustainable financial solutions.

The discussion was thoughtfully moderated by Cristina Amor Maclang and featured valuable contributions from industry leaders including Vasiliy Nazarov of SOL Consulting Corporation, Ann Cuisia of TraXion, Kyel John David of Salmon Group Ltd., Jeremy Christine Mercado of Juanscore, and Willy Santiago of Lenderlink. Together, the panel explored how collaboration between rural banks and fintechs can unlock new growth opportunities while preserving prudent risk management.

Rural banks continue to play a vital role in the Philippine financial system, distinguished by their deep local knowledge, long-standing relationships, and trust within their communities. As the financial landscape rapidly evolves, it is essential that these institutions are not left behind, but instead are equipped with the tools, data, and technology needed to thrive.

Through continued collaboration across the banking, fintech, and data ecosystems, CRIF remains committed to supporting rural banks in their mission to deliver inclusive finance. Together, stakeholders are helping shape a more resilient and digitally enabled financial future—one where rural banks can grow sustainably and every community has access to fair and dignified credit.
